Plants on a rainy day

On this very rainy day, I want to share with you my new baby plants.
I'm hoping these cutting will grow (fast) and love their new home, once my honeycomb shelves are done.

I love working with cuttings. Though I don't know all the science behind it*, it can be an easy and very rewarding way to get new plants.

* I did work in a greenhouse when I was younger, growing hedera and hydrangea

DIY honeycomb shelves @ A Beautiful Mess / Update

Last weekend I went over to my dad's again to work on my shelves! This time I worked significantly faster and finished all the hard work. All that is left is sanding and staining, and bringing them home of course.

DIY honeycomb shelves @ A Beautiful Mess

Today I started a DIY project I've been wanting to make for a long long time (the tutorial was put up last June!) These beautiful shelves by A Beautiful Mess. I went over to my dad's house this morning, since he has all the good tools. It was a lovely bike ride, but a somewhat wet one when I went back... Very enjoyable though, riding through the rain with good music and a good rain suit.
I did not finish the project, but look at the progress (and some pictures from the ride):

I'm planning to make one with three combs and one with two to hang in our living room. It's a lot of work and there were some difficulties not mentioned in the tutorial, but I think I tackled them very well.

Love to listen - St. Vincent

Today is a day of photo editing! Which is fun, but takes up lots of time.
I love to listen to St. Vincent while working.

I think it's about time to excuse myself from working, make some dinner and muffins.

Lately

Lately I've been to quite a few concerts: I saw The Knife, which was a weird show. The next day Junip played at the Melkweg and the week before I went to !!! and danced liked crazy.
I joined in a parade organized by a dear friend at Hemeltjelief festival and dressed up as a giant disco ball and it was amazing!
Today I had a quiet day at the house. I love my newly painted blue balcony floor, of which I'll show more soon. And I reorganized my kitchen and put my glass collection on display.

On being angry instead of being sad

Sometimes things don't work out the way they're supposed to. Sometimes a lot of things don't work out the way they're supposed to, which happens to me a lot lately. When this happens I'm very prone to becoming sad. Feeling sad makes me want to hide in my bed, under the blankets and hope everything will magically disappear. It makes me feel weak, small and unaccomplished.
Today I had a revelation. Things didn't work out the way they were supposed to, multiple times and not because of anything I did wrong. But instead of getting sad, I got angry. And in this anger I found new energy, new motivation. It gave me inspiration to do better and to let people who didn't give me a chance see that I am very damn good at what I do! Wether or not I will actually accomplish that doesn't matter, it was great not to feel small and insignificant after something went wrong, but powerful and meaningful.
I understand that this doesn't apply in every situation, focusing on getting angry in a fight might not be the best, but I will definitely try to apply this more in my life.

A new necklace

Wearing my newest knitted necklace: a subtle dip dye version! Still a prototype, but I'd love to hear your thoughts about it.

Tonight I'm going to see The Knife in Paradiso and tomorrow Junip in the Melkweg, so exciting!
